Job Description

We are looking for an Engineer II - DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) to join our Instrumentation - Engineering Design team at EarthScope Consortium. This position is based in Socorro, New Mexico, and is a full-time role with travel requirements of up to 30%. As an Engineer II, you will manage and implement field projects related to geophysical instruments and networks, working on logistics, field operations, instrumentation design, and technical support. You will collaborate with team members, report to the Engineering Manager, and actively contribute to the development and implementation of new geophysical technologies. Additionally, you will ensure project documentation adherence to best practices and standards, representing EarthScope Consortium to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Implement geophysical projects and assist with multiple projects.
  • Identify and solve technical issues related to gephysical sensor hardware and software.
  • Assist in designing and testing new systems.
  • Evaluate instrument design and data for system adequacy.
  • Document activities and metadata using established protocols.
  • Participate in collaborative projects within EarthScope.
  • Maintain relationships with community members, suppliers, and partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with geophysical sensors or networks.
  • Familiarity with data quality analysis software.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Fiber Optic Distributed Sensing applications.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Field experience in remote and extreme environments.
