Diesel or Automotive Mechanic - Freeport and Hempstead Schools

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Diesel or Automotive Mechanic to join our team at First Student. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing school buses to ensure they are safe and reliable for daily transportation. You will have the opportunity to provide guidance to lower-level technicians and contribute to preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and repair work.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections on school buses.
• Diagnose and repair various vehicle components including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, & transmissions.
• Ensure accurate completion of work orders and assist with emergency services as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed (training provided).
• 1-5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
• Possess a mechanic’s tool set and be willing to participate in the ASE certification program.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements.
