Veterinary Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team at El Paso Animal Urgent Care. The successful candidate must be a certified or experienced veterinary technician with excellent client communication and telephone skills. They should also be proficient in reading, speaking, and writing in English and have basic computer literacy skills. The role involves managing multiple unrelated tasks in a busy environment, being customer service-oriented, and having a professional appearance with scrubs furnished by the employee. The technician should be capable of working all shifts, including nights and weekends, administer injections, take vital signs of animals, properly restrain animals for examination and treatment, and administer treatments and medications intravenously, orally, and subcutaneously. The technician should be able to work well independently and in a group.

Responsibilities

• Prepare records, consent forms, and admit patients
• Present invoices, prepare estimates, and handle telephone calls
• Maintain health certificate and rabies certificate files, greet clients, and dispense medications
• Update client/patient files, perform closing procedures, and review vaccination records
• Assist veterinarian in medical and surgical procedures, maintain and use medical equipment, and perform routine laboratory procedures and analyses
• Monitor patients under anesthesia, induce anesthesia, administer treatments and injections, and initiate emergency procedures
• Maintain pharmacy records, controlled drug, anesthesia, fecal, and heartworm test logs, take and develop radiographs
• Perform dental cleanings, skin and ear cytologies, catheterization, ear cleanings, nail trims, and other duties as assigned
