Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Tissue Bank Technical Lead is overseeing technical operations and providing laboratory support. This is a mission-critical leadership position with responsibilities in operations as well as maintaining positive team dynamics and motivation. It is also a hands-on technical manufacturing operations position and is involved with all technical aspects of the procurement and production of biological materials to ensure continuity of products for distribution and that they are in conformance with Standard Operating Procedures. It may also involve contacting and interacting with vendors, associates, and clinics, or potential donor families, as well as with the Medical Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and coordinating the operations activities to the production schedule. This leadership role involves:

  • Aseptic techniques and sterility
  • Cleanroom procedures, all processing, and documentation
  • Maintenance and monitoring of cleanroom condition and operational supplies
  • QC of reagents and supplies accepted into the facility
  • Donor reception and preparation, and preliminary chart review
  • Morale and safe workplace practices
  • Good communication with the Managers, Technicians, Central Services and Purchasing staff

Organizing, supervising, and working with a team of Technicians and Central Services staff in support of those goals. Working in the clean room; organizing and training in the recovery, processing, testing, and final packaging of biological materials. Ensuring products are made to specifications and QC evaluated. Display a high degree of attention to detail in oversight of processing activities, documentation, and adherence to written specifications. Facilitate new product development activities.

Manage, operate, and maintain the equipment & facilities required for production work. This includes:

  • Maintaining the freeze-dryer, the clean room core, freezers, sterilization equipment, balances, hand tools, saws, filters, surgical instruments
  • Maintaining the building/facility general maintenance (lights, timers, security system, generator, etc.)
  • Operating various pieces of equipment such as the freeze-dryer, residual moisture balance, processing equipment, clean room, etc.
  • Supervising sterilization of equipment and supplies
  • Participating in regular maintenance of clean room and laboratory facility
  • Assisting QA with performing calibrations or other Quality Control audits/activities as requested
  • Perform some laboratory testing activities, create documentation, and maintain the organization of records
  • Performing basic lab testing such as pH, residual moisture measurements, etc. and preparing and sending appropriate samples out for testing according to our established protocols
  • Ensuring documentation of procedures is completed daily. Participate in writing, reviewing, and revising technical manuals, protocols, and other procedures, as needed. Position may involve periodic on-call responsibilities. Other general duties, as assigned
